playing with bits one byte at a time

Posting to and Getting Links from theStudio FB Page

NOTE: This is a quick tutorial I did and posted in the theStudio’s forum. Since the forum is not available at this time, I’m posting it on my blog.

One of the best ways to get your layouts noticed is to post them to theStudio’s Facebook Page. It’s really not all that hard, but it can be confusing. So, hold onto your seats and let’s get started.

First thing you need to do is actually go to theStudio’s Facebook Page (I know … DUH … had to start somewhere). Once there, all you need to do is post to the page, just like you do on your own page …

Unfortunately, after your done, it really doesn’t show up on theStudio’s front page … but it’s still posted to it. You need to go over to the left column and scroll down until you see VISITOR POSTS and click on it.

This now brings up a pop-up window with all the posts folks have made to theStudio’s page. If you just made a post, yours should be first in line. If you don’t see it right away, just scroll down in that window.

Now it’s time to capture the link to your post. You can’t use the one that shows in the browser bar … it’s not the correct one. What you need to do is right click on the image and select Open Link in New Tab or Open Link in New Window.

step4.jpg

Now you have a page that you can grab a link from. All you need to do is highlight the url and do a copy and then paste it to where you want it (like on a forum page).

Addendum – or further explanation

============================

I think I first need to tell you that I am on a Mac and I use Firefox as my browser. Things will look different.

When you first load theStudio’s Facebook page you’ll see this. The red box shows you the area that you will be posting your layout in.

Looking back at the tutorial, the above screenshot is the one I used to point out the image icon. What I forgot about was this. When you click in the text box to start typing (see red box below), it changes. Now you have 2 icons that you can use to upload your image.

However … what I actually do (when Facebook actually lets me do it), is simply drag and drop my image onto the box. What can be confusing, if you’ve already typed your text into the box and there’s a link in there, Facebook will try to create a preview image for you.

step2-3b.jpg

It’s not a big deal … just go ahead with your drag and drop of the image you really want to use.

step2-4b.jpg

However, you will get a warning asking if you want to continue … of course you do, so click Upload Photo.

step2-5b.jpg

Your post should now look like this … unless Facebook decides not to cooperate (which it didn’t for me while I was writing this). Just do another drag and drop and things should be all happy.

step2-6b.jpg

Now all you need to do is click Publish and capture the link to your post (see above … everything is out of order now … sorry).
